PhD Student's Position Available

We are looking for a motivated junior scientist to work in the Y.-C. Chen lab for Biological Mass Spectrometry and Nanotechnology in the Department of Applied Chemistry at the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) https://www.nycu.edu.tw/ in Taiwan. National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) is a top-ranked university in Taiwan. It is located in Hsinchu –approximately, 40 min drive from Taipei/Taoyuan Intl Airport. Hsinchu is an academic city with 8 universities, and hundreds of companies affiliated with the high technology sector.

We currently focus on two main research topics:

(1) development and applications of new ambient ionization methods for mass spectrometry and combined with spectroscopy;
(2) synthesis and applications of “smart” nanomaterials for targeting bacteria, cancer cells, and toxins.
Our group provides all graduate students with excellent research infrastructure and financial resources to support their projects. The instruments available in the laboratory are: mass spectrometers, fluorescence microscope, optical spectrophotometers, ultracentrifuge, dynamic light scattering system, Raman spectroscopy, etc. All the graduate students in the group are free to access these instruments. State-of-the-art facilities (NMR, electron microscopes, synchrotron, nanofabrication facility, etc.) are also available.
Expected applicant’s profile:
- You have completed MSc studies in analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, nanotechnology, materials science, microbiology, or a related field.
- You have gained proficiency in at least two of the following techniques: electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry, synthesis of nanomaterials, cell culture techniques, optical spectroscopy, electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, measurement of zeta potential, construction/tuning of lasers, ultracentrifugation.
- You have proven excellence during your previous studies.
- You are eager to learn new things.
- You are highly motivated to pursue challenging research tasks that will lead to obtaining PhD degree in chemistry.

Candidates should send their CV, and names of three referees to Prof. Yu-Chie Chen (e-mail: yuchie@nycu.edu.tw).

Following an initial acceptance by the group leader, the candidate will be requested to apply for the NYCU scholarship: https://oia.nctu.edu.tw/en/degree-seeking/international-students/scholarship/
